The building

Four rooms, one building, one entrance.

The foundry cast ship fittings for a century and closed in the 1980s. It reopened as an events building with the casting hall intact. Main Stage sits in that hall: 600 tiered seats, one screen 14 metres wide. The Caldeira Room is the old boiler room, 220 seats on a flat floor with two screens. The Workshop Room has 40 seats, tables, and power at every seat. The Hall runs along the river and holds registration, coffee, lunch and the sponsors.

Metro

Take the metro to the riverside line and get off at the station nearest the venue; it is a five-minute walk along the river. A single ticket costs under €2 and the last trains run after midnight.

Airport

Lisbon airport is inside the city. The metro runs from the airport to the centre with one change and takes about 35 minutes. A taxi or ride-hail takes 20 to 25 minutes outside peak hours and costs €15 to €25.

Taxi

Give the driver the street address, not the venue name. Drop-off is at the main gate on Rua do Cais. Ride-hail apps work in Lisbon and are usually cheaper than a street taxi.

Walking

From the city centre the walk along the river takes 20 to 30 minutes and is flat the whole way.

Where to stay

Three options, by distance.

We do not have a hotel partner and do not take a commission. Three options, by distance.

Within ten minutes on foot

Riverside hotels and guesthouses in the streets behind the venue. Mid-range prices, small rooms, no need for transport. Book by early October; the area fills up.

In the centre, one metro stop

Larger hotels and short-let apartments around the main squares. The widest choice at every price. Ten minutes by metro or a flat half-hour walk along the river.

Across the river

Cheaper, quieter, with a view back at the city. A ferry runs every 15 to 30 minutes and takes 10 minutes; the terminal is a short walk from the venue. Check the last ferry time before the closing drinks.

Accessibility

Step-free, captioned, with a quiet room.

The main entrance is step-free. Lifts serve every level. Accessible toilets are on both floors. Both stages have reserved seating at the front for wheelchair users and people who need to sit close, and both have an induction loop. There is a quiet room on the first floor, open all day. All talks are captioned live on the room screens. Email hello@orbena.example before the event with anything else you need and we will arrange it.
